Maxwell Awards Gala Announces Partnership with Mohegan Pennsylvania

WILKES-BARRE, PA (December 22, 2022)– Maxwell Football Club announced a partnership with Mohegan Pennsylvania as the new host venue for the 86th Maxwell Awards Gala which will be held on March 9, 2023. The Maxwell Club has hosted this event for 85 years, the first 65 years in Philadelphia and the last 20 in Atlantic City, NJ and in 2023 the event will return to Pennsylvania and feature some of the most exciting names in all of football.

Over the years the Club has honored many of the legendary players in collegiate and professional football, and this year will be no exception with Caleb Williams (USC) and Will Anderson Jr. (Alabama) heading up the list. In upcoming weeks additional winners from the professional ranks will be announced in what is shaping up to be a star-studded group of winners. Event tickets are on sale now HERE.

Mohegan Sun Pocono Temporary Closure to Begin Monday, March 16, 2020 at 8:00pm EST

WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 16, 2020) – Mohegan Sun Pocono will temporarily close all casino, and resort operations, effective at 8:00pm on Monday, March 16th. These actions come amid the necessary precautions due to COVID-19 and in close consultation with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) as well as local and state health authorities.

“In response to the rapidly developing situation surrounding coronavirus (COVID-19) and our efforts to protect the health and safety of our valued guests and team members, Mohegan Sun Pocono is acting to comply with the direction of Governor Wolf’s office to promote social distancing and limit/prohibit mass gatherings and will temporarily close its doors beginning at 8:00pm on Monday, March 16, 2020”, said Anthony Carlucci, President & General Manager of Mohegan Sun Pocono. “All activities are cancelled, including live racing, casino promotions and events.”

“The wellness of our guests and team members is our top priority. While there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at the property, Mohegan Sun Pocono is temporarily closing at the direction of the Governor’s office in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among large groups in the state of Pennsylvania. While we are temporarily closed we will be taking the opportunity to further deep clean our property. Du ring this temporary closure there will 24/7 security presence at Mohegan Sun Pocono.”

Mohegan Sun At Pocono Downs Appoints Director of Hotel Operations and Director of Sales & Catering

Ahead of the opening of their new 238-room hotel and Convention Center this fall, Mohegan Sun At Pocono Downs is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles Meeks as the new Director of Sales and Catering and name Timothy Athey as Director of Hotel Operations.  

In his role, Athey will direct all aspects of hotel operations for the property’s new, seven-story, 238-room hotel which is set to open later this fall.   
Athey has worked for Mohegan Sun for more than a decade having started at Mohegan Sun’s flagship property back in 1998 as a Barback. Most recently, Athey was the Guest Services Manager for Mohegan Sun’s 1,200-room hotel in Connecticut.

Charles Meeks, Director of Sales and Catering


Charles Meeks, Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs’ new Director of Sales and Catering, will oversee all aspects of convention and meetings business, catering, banquets and special events for the new 17,000 square-foot Convention Center.
Meeks has been in the hospitality business for more than 30 years, beginning his career in El Paso, Texas where he held various positions including Director of the West Texas Film Commission and then Director of the El Paso Convention and Visitors Bureau. After a more than 20 year career in El Paso, he moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico, where he worked in sales with the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino and then as General Manager for two area hotels.
