Live harness racing gets a boost with ostrich & camel racing, plus so much more!
WHAT: Mohegan Pennsylvania is celebrating the start of their annual Hot Summer Fun with a Kickoff Party. This family-friendly event is full of activities while spotlighting local charities and a salute to veterans.

IN DETAIL: Hot Summer Fun is upon us at Mohegan Pennsylvania, and the Summer Kickoff Party is one guests won’t want to miss. Guests of all ages can gather at the Racetrack for a day of activities including face painting, balloon art, and more. Those looking for a quick bite can enjoy freshly grilled hot dogs and hamburgers and grab a sweet treat from Jitty Joe’s Homemade Ice Cream truck. An array of beverages will be available for purchase, along with a complimentary, limited-edition, color changing cup.
To get things started, the FBS Initiative, an organization dedicated to helping homeless veterans off the street and on their feet, will do a special presentation of the colors during the National Anthem at 12:30pm. Veteran organizations Amvets and the PA Wounded Warriors will also be on hand to provide support to past and present military members, along with their families. Additional charities at the Summer Kickoff include Marley’s Mission, a local non-profit organization that provides free, equine-based therapy to help children develop solutions in their own lives and break barriers in their own healing.
At 1:00pm, guests can enjoy some high energy live harness racing on the Racetrack with a unique twist during the two intermissions. Between races, ostriches and camels with drivers will take over the Racetrack for an exhilarating dash to the finish line!

Kicking off at 6:00pm at Party on the Patio, six performances will heat up the stage. Local judges will narrow things down to the final two contestants and crowd feedback will determine the weekly winner, so bring your loudest friends and cheer on your favorite “singer!”
Parrotheads unite! At 7:30pm, Mohegan Sun Pocono welcomes ParrotBeach, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, to Party on the Patio for a free concert*. Get ready to kick up your heels, grab a refreshing cocktail and sing along to your favorite tunes with thousands of other Parrotheads on the track apron. After the show, step inside to the After Party in Breakers and enjoy the music of Gas Station Disco, known for igniting dance floors with their high energy stage show.
Unwind and have a drink at the Terrace with live music from Eddie Appnel on Friday, July 3rd at 6:00pm and Battle of the Bands finalist Nowhere Slow on Saturday, July 4th at 6:00pm. Also on Friday and Saturday night, enjoy a fun night of laughs with Louis Ramey, Mike Spiers and Scott Bruce at Wise Crackers Comedy Club starting at 9:00pm, or dance to live entertainment at Bar Louie and Breakers at 9:30pm.

Get to The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono early on Saturday, July 4th, as former Buffalo Bills Quarterback Jim Kelly will be signing autographs and taking photos on the Sky Bridge from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Kelly, known as the greatest quarterback in Buffalo Bills history, led his team to four consecutive Super Bowls and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002 in his first year of eligibility. Bracelets will be distributed starting at 1:00pm; only authorized photos will be signed and distributed at the event.
The $2 Million Sun Stakes Saturday Championship is set for Saturday, July 4th starting at 6:30pm, with the Earl Beal Jr. Memorial Trot, the Ben Franklin Free-For-All Pace, the Max Hempt Memorial Pace and the James Lynch Memorial Pace being contested on this prestigious night of harness racing. Then at 8:00pm, pick up your complimentary Earl Beal Jr. official hat in the Lower Grandstand.
Finally, on Sunday, July 5th, end your holiday weekend with a bang, with a fireworks extravaganza scheduled for approximately 9:30pm**. Free and open to all ages, the fireworks will immediately follow an action-packed night of harness racing which starts at 6:30pm.

Hall of Fame baseball superstar Mike Schmidt postponed his appearance on Breeders Crown day, October 19, 2013, at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, due to a personal conflict, according to his management. The star has confirmed that he would reschedule for November 23, which will be the new closing night for the 2013 harness racing meet, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Fans may line up at 2:00 p.m. on that day to secure their spot in line and obtain an authorized photo to be autographed. No outside merchandise will be signed.
Dale Rapson, Vice President of Racing Operations, has announced that the racing meet would offer two additional days of racing on Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23, with a Post Time of 6:30 p.m. both nights. Friday, November 22 has been deemed “Fan Appreciation Night”, and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., fans may show their Racing Rewards card and choose a souvenir from the 2013 meet; one per fan, while supplies last.
Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs is also announcing that NFL Hall of Fame Running Back Thurman Thomas would be on hand Breeders Crown day, October 19th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to sign autographs and meet his fans. Line-up begins at 1:00 p.m., and fans will obtain a wristband to secure their spot in line.
Breeders Crown night will feature 12 championship races and purses over $6 million. Post Time for this historic night of racing is at 5:00 p.m.

IN DETAIL: Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs is set to launch their 4th of July festivities with a bang, celebrating the holiday with a fireworks extravaganza scheduled for approximately 9:30pm on Wednesday, July 3rd. The fireworks will come at the conclusion of an evening of action packed harness racing with a special post time of 5:30pm on the track at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.
On Independence Day, the celebrations continue with the hottest party in Luzerne County. Starting at 6:00pm, the beach comes to NEPA with a special Party on the Patio featuring the celebrated Jimmy Buffett tribute band Parrot Beach. The band goes on at 7:30pm and $2.00 draft beer specials flow throughout the night.
A variety of live music and drink specials are also being offered in some of Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs’ other venues throughout each night. Beat City hits the stage in Breakers at 9:30pm on Wednesday, July 3rd, with Big Bang Baby playing a show from 10:30pm-2:00am on Thursday, July 4th.
