On Friday, August 14th, The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono kicks off a week-long celebration of its Golden Anniversary. Events include:
Friday, August 14th
Live harness racing at 6:30pm, with a special appearance by the world-renowned Budweiser Clydesdales.
Saturday, August 15th
Meet and have your photo taken with the Budweiser Clydesdales from 6:00pm – 7:30pm*, then an action-packed night of live harness racing kicks off at 6:30pm.
*This is a wristband-only event. Wristbands will be distributed at 4:00pm on the Sky Bridge. Photos are a $5 donation to Marley’s Mission, an organization that provides free equine-based therapy to children and their families that have experienced trauma.

We’re rolling back the prices on hot dogs, popcorn, soda and programs! Friday, August 21st
The night begins with a special post time of 5:30pm with the Legends Race, featuring drivers from the past fifty years in a thrilling competition, with a percentage of their purse donated to their favorite charity. Immediately after live racing, enjoy a free concert on the track apron featuring The Fellas, a tribute to Motown, and Encorz, a tribute to The Supremes. Stay cool with $1.00 Coors Light drafts from 9:00pm to 11:00pm at the trackside concession bar. Don’t forget to pick up a live racing program for your coupon for a free Decades of the Downs tee shirt, available after the concerts.
Saturday, August 22nd
Kick off your night with special guest Pete Rose, who will be dropping by from 4:00pm to 6:00pm to sign autographs and take photos with the crowd in the racing lobby*. Starting at 5:00pm, pick up your copy of the racing program for a coupon for a commemorative 50th Anniversary beer mug. Then at 5:30pm, the action shifts back to the track for the return of the $2.3 Million Super Stakes Saturday, with nearly $2.1 million in purses featuring the Colonial and the Battle of the Brandywine and Valley Forge, along with two consolations for each. Immediately following the stellar racing card at approximately 10:45pm, enjoy a spectacular fireworks display to cap a tremendous week of events.

Parrotheads unite! At 7:30pm, Mohegan Sun Pocono welcomes ParrotBeach, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, to Party on the Patio for a free concert*. Get ready to kick up your heels, grab a refreshing cocktail and sing along to your favorite tunes with thousands of other Parrotheads on the track apron. After the show, step inside to the After Party in Breakers and enjoy the music of Gas Station Disco, known for igniting dance floors with their high energy stage show.
Unwind and have a drink at the Terrace with live music from Eddie Appnel on Friday, July 3rd at 6:00pm and Battle of the Bands finalist Nowhere Slow on Saturday, July 4th at 6:00pm. Kelly, known as the greatest quarterback in Buffalo Bills history, led his team to four consecutive Super Bowls and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002 in his first year of eligibility. Bracelets will be distributed starting at 1:00pm; only authorized photos will be signed and distributed at the event.
The $2 Million Sun Stakes Saturday Championship is set for Saturday, July 4th starting at 6:30pm, with the Earl Beal Jr. Memorial Trot, the Ben Franklin Free-For-All Pace, the Max Hempt Memorial Pace and the James Lynch Memorial Pace being contested on this prestigious night of harness racing. Then at 8:00pm, pick up your complimentary Earl Beal Jr. official hat in the Lower Grandstand.
Finally, on Sunday, July 5th, end your holiday weekend with a bang, with a fireworks extravaganza scheduled for approximately 9:30pm**. Free and open to all ages, the fireworks will immediately follow an action-packed night of harness racing which starts at 6:30pm.

IN DETAIL:
Known as one of the best hockey teams of all time, the Philadelphia Flyers of the early 1970s were well-renowned for their aggressive defensive tactics and great skill, which helped them to win two consecutive Stanley Cup titles in 1974 and 1975.
Bernie Parent was the All-Star goalie that led the team to the two consecutive Stanley Cup titles, and was selected Most Valuable Player of both series. Parent was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984.
Dave “The Hammer” Schultz, a rugged winger, was known as the enforcer of the team. In the 1973-74 season, Schultz accumulated 348 penalty minutes and in the 1974-75 season he accrued an astounding 472 penalty minutes, which today remains the NHL record for a single season. Schultz had amazing scoring abilities, scoring twenty goals during the 1973-74 season.
Bob Kelly was the aggressive left-winger and scored the game-winning goal to secure the Flyers’ second Stanley Cup championship in 1975. Along with Schultz, Kelly was one of the team’s top defensive enforcers.
