On Saturday, May 7th, Kentucky Derby enthusiasts and live racing fans can enjoy food trucks, Mint Juleps, Beer specials, a Hat Revue contest and plenty more!
Returning for the first time since 2019 will be the Kentucky
Derby Celebration at the Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono (MSP). While the Downs will be open for racing wagers (18 or older) beginning at 10:00am, this much anticipated party really gets started at Noon when outdoor beverage windows and food trucks open. Also beginning at Noon is registration for a Hat Revue where participants will compete to take home great prizes under the categories “Most Classic”, “Most Creative”, and “Best Dressed Couple.” WNEP TV’s Ryan Leckey will be on-hand as the special guest judge for this contest! Live racing at the racetrack begins at 1:30pm. This Kentucky Derby Celebration at MSP does not have an admission fee.
Outdoor beverage windows at Mohegan Sun Pocono’s Kentucky Derby Celebration will offer Mint Juleps, Coors Light, Blue Moon, White Claw, spirits, various mixed drinks and non-alcoholic beverages. And three of PA’s best food trucks, Eat Up Now, Hot Potatoes and 2 Wayz One Passion, will be stationed outside for the celebration.
Guests can also bring their greatest Churchill Downs inspired hats for a chance to win great prizes. Registration for the Hat Revue will be from Noon – 4:30pm, and there are three different prizes that guests can win. With WNEP-TV’s Ryan Leckey serving as the special guest judge, a top prize the includes a $500.00 Mohegan Sun Pocono gift card along with a $200.00 racing voucher will be awarded to the Best Dressed Couple. The other two categories are Most Classic and Most Creative, each awarding a $250.00 gift card and a $100.00 racing voucher.
Ryan Leckey is an Emmy-award-winning content creator and one of the most well-known TV personalities in Pennsylvania. Leckey hosts “Leckey Live,” every weekday on WNEP-TV, where he has been since 2005. In addition to keeping audiences engaged and updated on social media as well, Leckey also heads up “Ryan’s Run,” a charity campaign benefitting children and adults with disabilities at Allied Services Integrated Health System.
At 6:57pm, the Kentucky Derby will begin, televised on the outdoor jumbo screen and indoor racing TV’s. Mohegan Sun Pocono will also be accepting advance wagers for the Kentucky Derby on Friday, May 6th.
The first ever Kentucky Derby took place in 1875, making it the longest running sporting event in the United States. Also known as “The Run for the Roses”, the popular race features 3-year-old racehorses and has had some incredible moments in its storied history. One of those moments came in 2018, when the Kentucky Derby hosted the first leg of the most recent Triple Crown winner, Justify. The Triple Crown is one of the hardest feats in all of sports, requiring the same horse to win the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes in the same season. It has only been accomplished 13 times.

Party on the Patio, NEPA’s Biggest Free Summer Concert Series, is Back!
Live concerts, food trucks, and more every Thursday!
WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 7. 2022)– Tribute band fans rejoice! Mohegan Sun Pocono (MSP) is excited to announce the return of Party on the Patio. Taking place every Thursday one the racetrack apron June 2nd to September 1st, guests can enjoy Northeastern Pennsylvania’s most popular concert series full of live entertainment, a variety of tasty food truck options, and thirst-quenching drink specials. As always, there is no cover charge at Party on the Patio.
In addition to some of the best tribute bands in the country, Dean Ford and the Beautiful Ones is making their Party on the Patio debut on June 9th with Prince’s greatest hits. Three weeks later, Who’s Bad is set to bring the best of Michael Jackson to the outdoor stage for the first time since 2011.
Stay tuned to MSP’s Facebook, Twitter or Instagram ahead of the July 14th Rubix Kube show for more information on the 80s costume contest on social media corresponding with a night full of the greatest hits of the decade. The following week, fellow NEPA natives Philadelphia Freedom will headline Party on the Patio with a tribute performance to Elton John on Thursday July 21st.
The best local food trucks, including 2 Wayz One Passion and Ray’s Porketta, will be featured throughout duration of Party on the Patio. Coors Light, Blue Moon and a variety of seltzers, spirits and mixed drinks will also be offered.
Party on the Patio performances do not have a cover and doors open at 6:30pm. These incredible bands start rockin’ the stage at 7:30pm. All attendees must be 21 and over and valid identification is required for entry.

These exciting new offerings are a part of collective enhancements planned for MSP, billed as Project Starlight. A $10 million hotel renovation is also underway
WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 6, 2022) – Mohegan Sun Pocono (MSP) guests are in for a treat as 2022 heats up. Three exciting new venues will officially debut, starting in late April with the all-new outdoor terrace bar, Embers Terrace. This new offering will be home to Adirondack style seating, fire pits, live weekend entertainment, dining options, an outstanding drink menu and more. Set to launch this summer in the old Bar Louie space will also be The Hive Taphouse, equipped with a full dining menu, 20 beers on tap, a live music stage and its very own Topgolf Swing Suites, equipped with Full Swing Simulators that in addition to virtual golf courses and Topgolf games, will also be home to energetic games like Zombie Dodgeball, the Quarterback Challenge, Baseball Pitching, Hockey games and more.
“These capital improvements as part of Project Starlight represent some of the most thrilling enhancements that we have ever announced at MSP.” -said Anthony Carlucci, President & General Manager of Mohegan Sun Pocono. “These offerings will not only bolster our live entertainment, but they also bring a relaxing and fun-filled outdoor experience as well as an amazing Topgolf Swing Suite venue. All 238 of our hotel rooms will have a whole new look and feel by the end of the year as well!”
Located near Rustic Kitchen Bistro & Bar, Embers Terrace will be the first new amenity to open. Featuring a 25-person bar, a partially covered dining area with a late fare menu launching in June, hand-built fire pits, acoustic entertainment and a lawn area where various activities will take place, this new outdoor terrace bar andterrace will serve as a hot spot for all types of outings during the warmer seasons. The weekends are set to feature acoustic duos and with that, VIP booking opportunities will be possible. The drink menu will also offer some of the best wine in the region, as well as a range of mixed drinks and local, domestic and imported beers.
Slated to launch in early summer, The Hive Taphouse will have 20 beers on tap, the most at MSP, serving the likes of IPAs, Porter, Stouts, Cider, Ale, Lager, Pilsner, Witbier, Hefeweizen, and rotating seasonal offerings. Home to a live music stage, this new venue will roll out a can’t-miss entertainment calendar featuring some of the top musical acts across the region. More than 12 high-definition TV screens will also fill up The Hive Taphouse, playing all the major sporting events. A full dining menu will feature a wide variety of dishes like Appetizers, Flatbreads, Salads, Wings, Burgers, Sandwiches, Tacos and Mac N Cheese. Located near the main bar inside The Hive Taphouse will be the Topgolf Swing Suites with two Full Swing simulators, where people of all ages and skill levels can come together for playful competition. This simulated golfing experience features a massive screen with a variety of multi-sport games, as well as HDTVs, comfortable lounge seating and food and beverage offerings. Guests can play either 9 or 18 holes across more than 80 famous courses, including Pebble Beach and Bethpage Black. Not to be outdone, this new venue will also allow guests to try other exhilarating simulated games like Baseball Pitching, The Quarterback Challenge, Hockey, Zombie Dodgeball, Soccer and much more.
The Mohegan Sun Pocono Hotel, opened in 2014, will also undergo a major revamp. By the end of 2022, all 238 guest rooms will be completely renovated with new, fresher contemporary designs, new bathrooms and upgraded amenities throughout. “We’ve already modelled a couple of rooms so far and the difference is remarkable. Shawn Klush will grace the main stage on Sunday, December 12th in the Keystone Grand Ballroom with the best sounds of Elvis Presley. This all-ages show kicks off at 3:00pm.

The Closest Thing to the King in Concert was born and raised in the small coal-mining town of Pittston, Pennsylvania, and his love of music led him to begin imitating his musical idol, Elvis Presley. Shawn Klush performed in the Poconos region before embarking on a tour of Canada, where he competed in and won the $5,000.00 prize in the “Worldwide Elvis Competition” in Montreal. This piqued the interest of the award-winning Las Vegas show “Legends in Concert,” where he starred as ‘Elvis’ for many years in their Myrtle Beach, Las Vegas, Branson, and Atlantic City show rooms. Shawn was then named the “World’s Greatest Elvis” by 6.5 million international viewers on BBC1 Television in the United Kingdom. On the 30th anniversary of Elvis’ passing, Klush was named the ‘First Ever’ “Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist” by Elvis Presley Enterprises in Memphis TN. Shawn has record breaking performances in the US, Switzerland, Canada Australia, the UK and South America. He was named “Worldwide Ambassador of Elvis” at the Las Vegas Hilton where he headlines the annual the Las Vegas Elvis Fest, celebrating Elvis’ historic Las Vegas Performances.
