Continual Velocity parlayed a pocket trip into a stunning upset in Sunday night’s featured Preferred pace for mares at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The race carried a purse of $25,000.
Continual Velocity (Real Artist-Extreme Velocity), a 6-year-old mare from the Ron Burke barn, finished up the track in 6th in the same class a week ago, which is probably why she was a 32-1 shot from the inside post in a field of six on Sunday night. Yet driver Matt Kakaley found the pocket early, and Continual Velocity outpaced fast-closing Feeling You in the stretch to win by a neck in a career-best 1:50:2. Pacesetting American In Paris finished third while heavy favorite Shebestingin struggled to fifth.
Continual Velocity won for the fifth time in a dozen 2014 starts. It was her 26th career victory, pushing her lifetime earnings to $511,525.

Twincreeks Jesse put forth a tremendous effort on the front end to capture the final of the Bobby Weiss Series for 3-year-old colts and geldings on the pace on Saturday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The race carried a purse of $30,000.
Twincreeks Jesse (Real Artist-Happy Ginny), who left from post position #3 in a field of eight as the 9-5 second choice, got away well and sat second early behind Deep Sea Hanover. Driver George Napoiltano Jr. wanted to control matters though, so he sent the 3-year-old gelding owned and trained by Ann DePietro to the lead on the front stretch. When the outside pressure wasn’t able to get to him, Twincreeks Jesse had to hold off a late second move from Deep Sea Hanover to win by a neck in 1:51:4. Lets Rock Together picked up the show.
Twincreeks Jesse notched his third consecutive win and fourth in seven tries this year. He now has five lifetime victories and career earnings of $50,440.

Shebestingin now has five wins in five starts in her career after a victory in a division of the Bobby Weiss Series for 3-year-old pacing fillies on Tuesday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The race carried a purse of $15,000.
Shebestingin (Bettor’s Delight-Armbro Tussle), won her split in 1:53:4 by controlling matters on the front end. Jim Morrill Jr. did the driving for trainer Joe Holloway. American In Paris finished a length back in second while Ideal Ginny picked up the show.
In the night’s other Weiss division, Live Entertainment (Real Artist-West Side Glory) made her first start of the year a winning one in 1:52:3. Jimmy Takter trains the filly and son Jimmy Jr. did the driving. Coffee Addict finished second in that split and Gramercy Hanover got the show.
