Larry Stalbaum collects 4,000th Win at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs
WILKES-BARRE, PA — Larry Stalbuam won the 4,000th win of his harness racing career Monday, June 14th at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.
It came in Race 4 with Mountain Air, a horse trained by his partner Kimberly Asher.
The 46-year-old Stalbaum left quickly and got the 11-1 longshot to the front right from the start of the race and wired the field in 1:53 in a $10,000 claiming pace.
“I’m happy,” said Stalbaum in the winner’s circle with his four young children and Asher. “I did it with lots of tired horses.”
Stalbaum, a resident of Goshen, N.Y., began his driving career in 1986 and now has won more than $19 million purses with those 4,000 victories. His most wins in a single season came in 2004 when he was in the winner’s circle 421 times with his best Universal Driving Rating of .342 and 1,949 starts. The best money year occurred in 2008 when he compiled more than $3.4 million in purses with 216 wins.
