Big Jim, a two-year-old Western Ideal colt, gave the driver Phil Hudon and trainer James Dean, their first Breeders Crown titles in winning the $600,000 two-year-old colt and gelding pace at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.
With the “trip,” Big Jim got from Hudon, this Western Ideal colt also established a new Crown record for a five-eighths mile track with a time of 1:50.4
The victory pushed the lifetime earnings for Big Jim to more than $472,000. It was the fifth win in nine starts for the freshman pacer named after his owner James Carr.
